If you're travelling to Bandung, the capital city of West Java province, you should visit Mount Tangkuban Perahu. This popular tourist destination, which means "overturned boat" due to its shape, is located about 20 kilometers north from Bandung. People usually go to this place to escape from the tropical heat. The temperature here could reach as low as 16 degrees celsius during the day.

Take lovely family pictures for your Instagram posts with the beautiful Ratu Crater as the background. A parking lot is conveniently located near the crater, making it easily accessible.
This crater is surrounded by black trees which were exposed to the high content of sulphur from the crater. Experience a unique and beautiful ambience as you walk down the path under the trees. If you are lucky, you can also spot ebony leaf monkeys or lutung (Trachypithecus auratus) swinging on the branches.

Take a little walk from the Ratu Crater to find small snack and beverage huts lining up on the side of the crater, where you can enjoy the scenery of the majestic Tangkuban Perahu.
3 | Enjoying Mud Massage at Domas Crater

Domas Crater is located approximately 1 kilometer downhill hike from Ratu Crater. Once you get here you can dip your feet inside one of the hot springs here or have reflexology foot massage using sulphuric mud. A massage also prepares you for the steep uphill hike back to the entrance. You can also boil eggs on the hot springs and then eat it.
To ensure all visitors' safety and comfort, you are required to hire local guides to visit Domas Crater. The fee for the local guides ranges from IDR 100,000 to 200,000.

4 | Relax and Pamper Yourself at Ciater Hot Spring

Exploring craters at Tangkuban Perahu will make you tired but you can relax your muscles by soaking your body in the Ciater hot spring.
The water at this hot spring is flowing directly from Tangkuban Perahu and its temperature can reach up to 42.5 celsius. The hot spring is a good therapy if you have joint pain.
The hot spring is situated on the slope of Tangkuban Perahu. You will only need to take about 7 kilometers drive from the mountain to this hot spring.

5 | Tips for Fun Family Trip to Tangkuban Perahu

Do not forget to prepare some masks because the sulphur content makes the air pungent and can cause respiratory problems. You will also need to bring sunblock to avoid sunburn.
The mountain is situated 2,084 meters above sea level and temperature can drop as low as 16 degrees celsius during the day and 2 degrees during the night. You will need to bring sweater or jacket to protect you from the cold. Wear proper shoes (sneakers, mountain boots) while trekking the road.
In order to make the most of your time in exploring the Tangkuban Perahu, do not forget to come early in the morning.
