But if we are talking about Rendang, it is hard not to include Pagi Sore Padang restaurant in the discussion. The restaurant even use “Jagonya Rendang” (The Master of Rendang), for their tagline.
Pagi Sore rendang caramelized beef curry looks darker and thicker than the usual rendang. The curry taste so good, that even if you eat it with warm rice without the meat, you can still enjoy it. And the meat.. has to go through eight hours straight cooking process to produce such tender and delicious meat.As of 2016 the Pagi Sore restaurant has four outlets across Jakarta. One of them is in Cilandak.

Established in 1967, Sari Bundo is one of the first Padang Restaurants established in Jakarta, and became an old time favorite among Jakartans to eat Padang delicacies, including former president, B. J. Habibie. Habibie’s favorite meal and also one of the restaurants popular menu is its fried chicken which is famous for its crispy and spicy flavor. Rendang and Ayam Pop are also their most recommended menu.

The restaurant is famous for its delicious ayam pop, a fried chicken dish which has been cooked in broth of coconut juice. If you still doubt about their quality, Simpang Raya received Indonesia Tourism Award in 2010 from the Tourism Ministry as the most favorite restaurant in Indonesia. This restaurant has the biggest Padang Restautant chain not only in Jakarta but all across in Indonesia and even Malaysia. Dozens of its franchises are established across Jakarta. Sederhana Padang restaurant can easily be found at almost every area in Jakarta. There are many of them but you could start your journey by visiting the first restaurant built by its owner, Bustaman, at Bendungan Hilir, in 1974.

Surya Padang restaurant is possibly the only restaurant visited by both food travel blogger and vlogger, Mark Wiens, and the late US celebrity chef, Anthony Bourdain. It is hard not to fall in love with the restaurant when it could pamper you with heavenly delicious dishes, especially the rendang which Mark wrote in his blog at migrationology.com as “pieces of beef in a dangerously tasty blend of spices, and what really came through nicely was the dry coconut within the curry.” You could visit their restaurant at Jalan Bendungan Hilir No. 5, Tanah Abang.
