The Memory Makers of Labuan Bajo Tourism Village

Pesona Travelers would surely agree that the memories of a journey are often shaped by interactions with local tourism players—guides, local coffee makers, and cultural practitioners. The conversations, stories shared, and experiences built together make memories even more colorful.

Om Agus “Kopi Tuk,” Batu Cermin Village

“Tuk” comes from the word “tumbuk” (to grind), as the coffee is supposedly ground with love. The favorite blend is Florasta, a mix of Robusta and Arabica. Kopi Tuk has become an icon, thanks to Agustinus' dedication in applying his training, including from the Ministry of Tourism, and his warm personality that keeps tourists coming back. Formerly a guide, he now resides in Batu Cermin but travels around Labuan Bajo with Kopi Tuk, setting up shop until sunset on Bukit Cinta.

Get ready to laugh at Om Agus’ unique humor, like, “This is Robusta Coffee—Romantic, Not a Lie!”

Adrianus Taur, Herbal Industry Creator in Golo Bilas Village

During the pandemic, Adrianus revived the tradition of using family medicinal plants (TOGA) as natural health remedies in Manggarai. Initially, he used herbs from his backyard, but now Adrianus also sources produce from surrounding villagers like red ginger, turmeric, pandan leaves, and lemongrass, generating up to 8 million IDR/month. This herbal industry not only promotes good health but also boosts the village's economy.

Don’t forget to buy Sari Toga Komodo, Adrianus’ herbal drink blend, as a unique souvenir from Labuan Bajo.

Alfons, Guide of Batu Cermin Cave

Like Labuan Bajo, Batu Cermin Cave was once underwater and emerged as the sea receded. In the cave, you can see coral walls sparkling with salt crystals, adorned with marine fossils like turtles, fish, and corals.

The cave's unique experience also includes light reflections and total darkness when tourists are asked to turn off all light sources, as explained by Alfons, a local guide at Batu Cermin Cave. Besides sharing the cave’s beauty, Alfons ensures visitors’ safety by monitoring headgear, lighting, and group movements, so everyone leaves with pleasant memories.

Yogi Indrawan, Tourism Promoter in Pasir Putih Village

Upon arrival at the Pasir Putih dock, Pesona Travelers will feel the unique ambiance of a Bajo community. The fishing village residents are welcoming, like Yogi, one of the village’s tourism promoters.

Beyond the clear waters and unique village vibe, Pasir Putih offers stunning aerial views. Travelers must visit the iconic hill at the village’s end, topped with a solar power panel, providing panoramic views of the colorful rooftops, white-sand beaches, and blue seas against a sky backdrop. Yogi envisions the village as the “Rainbow Village in the Middle of the Sea” and hopes to build a viewing tower for everyone to enjoy the scenery. May Pasir Putih keep getting more beautiful!

Riki Morgan, Cultural Practitioner in Batu Cermin Village

Since 2019, Riki has been running the Potang Iring Studio to engage the youth of his village in preserving Manggarai’s cultural heritage. Starting with a desire to fill a gap in local cultural activities, his studio is now frequently invited to perform nationally. Riki himself is active in Gentra Lestari Budaya, a community of traditional Indonesian art enthusiasts.

Watching traditional performances in their original setting creates sweet memories for tourists. For example, the Ndundundake dance—a Manggarai dance often performed to welcome guests and show the host’s warmth and hospitality.

Ready to craft memories with Labuan Bajo’s tourism players?

Let’s plan a trip there soon, Pesona Travelers!
