Pattimura Festival

The Pattimura Festival, celebrated annually on May 15, commemorates the heroic fall of Duurstede Fort when Kapitan Pattimura and his comrades reclaimed it from Dutch colonizers. The event begins with the lighting of the Pattimura Torch, which is carried in a relay run from village to village, greeted with vibrant cultural rituals along the way.
The festival’s climax takes place at the ceremonial grounds in front of Duurstede Fort, attended by the Governor/Regent as the ceremony's inspector. Military units dressed in Pattimura-era red battle uniforms add a powerful historical touch.
This festival not only honors history but also ignites a spirit of unity, resilience, and patriotism in every generation.
