The history of Museum Geotechnology Mineral is closely linked to Soeroto, the first rector of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta. In the early days of the university, he initiated the collection of rocks and fossils as part of natural resource education development. This effort involved several prominent lecturers and experts, including Prof. Dr. S. Sartono, Dr. M. Oentung, Dr. Ir. C. Danisworo, MSc, Ir. Helmi Murwanto, and Ir. F. Suhartono.

A significant milestone occurred on February 27, 1988, when the museum was officially authorized through the signing of a plaque by the Minister of Defense and Security of the Republic of Indonesia at the time, General Poniman. The plaque was placed in front of the museum at Campus II of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, marking its official status and strategic role in education and earth sciences.

Museum Geotechnology Mineral is a specialized museum focusing on geology, mineralogy, fossils, and earth technology. It serves as a supporting facility for education and research, especially for students and academics, while also providing public education on geological processes and natural resource potential.
