The museum was inaugurated on June 14, 2003, after years of construction initiated in 1988. It was conceptualized by Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra, then Governor of Bali. Its design reflects Balinese philosophical concepts, symbolizing spiritual strength and community resilience. 

Types and Classification

This institution is classified as a specialized museum (Jenis Museum Khusus) with Type B, focusing specifically on historical and cultural representations of Balinese heritage. Museums of this type contribute to the depth and diversity of museum collections in Indonesia

Management and Ownership

The museum is owned by the Government of Bali Province and managed by the Provincial Department of Culture of Bali. As a regional cultural institution, it plays a vital role in conserving and showcasing traditional history through exhibition and public programming.
