Indonesia is renowned for its rich cultural and historical diversity, which is preserved through museums across the archipelago. One of these important institutions is the Museum Daerah Kabupaten Banggai Province of Central Sulawesi, which serves as a center for cultural preservation and public education in the Banggai region.

Historical Background of Museum Daerah Kabupaten Banggai Province of Central Sulawesi

Established in 2005, the museum occupies a historic building constructed in 1926 during the Dutch colonial period. The building originally served as the residence of the 33rd King of Banggai, H.S.A. Amir, and is also known as the House of the Dutch Captain.

Over time, the building underwent several functional changes, including serving as the Health Office of Kodim Luwuk, before being officially designated as the regional museum. Its transformation into a museum marked an important step in preserving Banggai’s historical legacy.

The Museum Daerah Kabupaten Banggai Province of Central Sulawesi is classified as a general museum with Type C status. It is owned by the Government of Banggai Regency and managed by the Department of Education and Culture of Banggai Regency. The museum is officially registered under the National Museum Registration Number 72.01.U.04.0272.

Its function as a general museum allows it to present a wide range of collections related to local culture, history, and social life in Banggai.
