The royal city of Solo will come alive with grand festivities when the annual fiesta of the Solo Batik Carnival turns the spotlight on the city on 22nd to 24th July 2016. Entering its 9th edition this year, the event carries the theme “Mustika Jawa Dwipa” or “The Precious Treasure of Java” which highlights the precious heritage of Javanese culture which are represented by  the Keris (dagger), Gamelan (musical instruments), the  traditional Lamp, and Candis (Ancient Temples).

Celebrating the splendors of  authentic Indonesian traditional art on textile, the event will feature some of the best innovative works presented by Solo’s finest Batik artisans. The opening ceremony will take place at the Sriwedari Stadium on 22nd July 2016. Meanwhile, a Fashion bazaar and a range of creative products exhibitions will be held for three days from 22nd to 24th July 2016 at Fort Vastenburg.

As in previous years, the pinnacle of the Solo Batik Carnival is the grand parade that will turn the major streets of Solo into a massive runway for hundreds of professional and instant models in a colossal fashion show. Scheduled to take place on 24th July 2016, this year the carnival will cover the route from Jalan Bhayangkara Street – Jalan Slamet Riyadi  – Gladaga  and ends at the Fort Vastenburg.

The carnival will not only present a glamorous and exquisite fashion show, but it will also involve some beautiful choreography and theatrical performances. The carnival itself has drawn more than 200 participants ranging from artists, students, as well as from the general public.

As a tradition that has flourished for many generations, the art of Batik is inseparable from Javanese culture. Symbolizing grace and precision in its creation, the intricate fabric of Batik itself is the epitome of Javanese elegance, harmony, balance and philosophy.

And as the seat of Javanese culture and tradition, the city of Solo possesses some of the best examples of Batik Keraton or Royal Batik, an artistic tradition that has been passed down since the ancient Javanese kingdoms. Its proximity to Yogyakarta and world heritage sites such as the Borobudur and Prambanan Temples has made Solo the perfect location to celebrate the everlasting Javanese creative tradition of Batik.

Solo and Yogyakarta form the seat of  ancient Javanese Culture that remains very much alive until this very day.

Although Solo has modern hotels and facilities but it's charm lies in its environment that is still steeped in tradition.

Therefore, such traditional festivities and events should not be missed.

There are many regular flights to Solo from Jakarta and Bali.
