Museum Cunggrang: A Pillar of Local Cultural Preservation

Museum Cunggrang is a publicly accessible museum located in Kabupaten Pasuruan, East Java, officially registered in the Museum Indonesia system with registration number 35.14.U.04.0303. This museum serves as a center for preserving and presenting the cultural and historical heritage of Pasuruan, contributing to the breadth of national museum collections and knowledge.

Museum Cunggrang is a general museum that aims to collect, preserve, and display historical and cultural artefacts from the Pasuruan region. The museum is owned and managed by the Pasuruan District Office of Education and Culture. Responsibilities include curating displays, maintaining artefacts, organizing educational programs, and welcoming public visits. 

 

History of the Museum

Museum Cunggrang officially opened on July 5, 2019, led by regional leaders including KH. Said Aqiel Siradj along with the then-Bupati of Pasuruan, M. Irsyad Yusuf. The museum was founded to protect historical objects and cultural items that might otherwise have been neglected, damaged, or lost. 

 

Museum Collections

Although specific registered collections are still developing, the museum houses crucial historical objects such as the Prasasti Cunggrang, an ancient inscription from the Mataram Kingdom era, offering valuable insight into early Javanese governance and culture. 

Other items include traditional tools, historical photographs, and locally significant artefacts that enrich visitors’ understanding of Pasuruan’s past.

The museum’s vision is to become a center of cultural information, historical education, and tourism that offers comprehensive insight into the origins and development of Pasuruan’s cultural heritage.

To fulfill this vision, Museum Cunggrang pursues several key missions:
