Karang Asam Festival

Karang Asam Festival is the first community-based festival in South Sumatra and has been selected for the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2025. Showcasing the cultural richness of Muara Enim, the 2025 theme “Labyrinth of Culture” highlights the rare tradition Mandikan Kupek ke Ayek; a ritual of bathing newborns in the river, symbolizing harmony between humans and nature. Since 2024, this ritual has become a yearly feature to promote environmental and river conservation. The Karang Asam Festival has grown into a platform for creativity, community connection, and cultural empowerment, strengthening its identity as a leading cultural destination in South Sumatra.
