History of UPTD Museum Negeri Gayo

The museum was established in 2005 and designed using the architectural style of the traditional Gayo house. One of its distinctive features is the Kerawang Gayo ornament carved on the northern wall, symbolizing the philosophical values of Gayo culture.

Adjacent to the museum building stands a 20-meter-high observation tower, which allows visitors to enjoy panoramic views of Lake Laut Tawar and Takengon City, making the museum a unique combination of cultural and natural tourism.

Collections of UPTD Museum Negeri Gayo

UPTD Museum Negeri Gayo houses approximately 50 collections, including traditional pottery, ceremonial items, Gayo bridal sets, traditional costumes, and even prehistoric human fossils. The museum also displays photographic documentation of traditional houses, historic mosques, and cultural heritage sites across Central Aceh.

These collections provide valuable insights into the cultural evolution and daily life of the Gayo people.
