The Robo’-Robo’ Culture is a series of traditional events held by the Mempawah Kingdom, the Mempawah Regency Government, and the local community on the last Wednesday of the month of Safar in the Hijri calendar. This tradition serves as a commemoration of the historic arrival of Opu Daeng Manambon (the first King of Mempawah) from the Matan Tanjungpura Kingdom to the Bangkule Rajakng Kingdom (Mempawah Kingdom) in 1737/1148 AH. Sailing with a fleet of 40 boats, Opu Daeng Manambon’s entourage was welcomed with great joy by the dignitaries of the Bangkule Rajakng Kingdom and the local people along the Mempawah River. To mark the celebration, residents greeted them in canoes and adorned their riverside houses with various colorful papers and fabrics, a vibrant spectacle that remains a cherished legacy today.
