Phinisi is traditional Indonesian wooden schooner unique to the Konjo tribe, a sub-ethnic group of Bugis-Makassar mostly residents at the Bulukumba regency of South Sulawesi, on the southern peninsula of Sulawesi. Atypical Phinisi has length of 20 to 35 meters long and size of 350 tons. The masts may reach to 30 meters above the deck.

This traditional ship was first built hundreds of years ago, and is still used widely by the Bugis mostly for inter-insular transportation, cargo and fishing purposes within Indonesian archipelago.

Today, we saw a number of yacht operators in Indonesian building these traditional schooners and converting them into luxury yachts, installing all modern equipment, amenities and comforts commonly found in modern yachts. They offer discerning clients sailing trips to many destinations particularly around Bali, Labuan Bajo and Raja Ampat in Papua.

OCEAN PURE CHARTER

In recent years, South East Asia has rapidly grown to become a major hub for yachts. This growth is attributed to its economy that has been on the rise as well as the destinations they have so much to offer.

As part of the region, Indonesia recognized this growth as an opportunity to be seized and further developed as part of its effort to achieve its tourist arrival target. The government has made huge improvement in bringing more yacht visits to Indonesia, particularly on the regulatory matters which make it easier and faster for yachts to clear into and navigate Indonesian waters.

Furthermore, the government has also encouraged the development of infrastructures, including roads, ports, marinas and yacht clubs across the nation. In addition, facility improvement of many tourist destinations has also been carried out by both the government and the private companies.

Last but not least, another significant factor for Indonesia is the fact that this archipelagic nation is blessed with natural beauty and marine abundance. All of these factors present strong assets for Indonesia to develop its tourism industry, particularly on yacht segment.

In a bid to boosting yacht visits to Indonesia, the government has introduced a number of new regulations which simplifies the process for the yachters to enter Indonesian waters and to dock in the country's ports.

The most significant new regulation is the introduction of YachtERS, an online electronic registration system under the management of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.
