The 6thTAFISA Games 2016 in Jakarta: Traditional Sports shape National Identity

 

Featuring various traditional sport and folk games from all over the world, the 6th TAFISA World Sport for All Games will be held from 6th to 12th October 2016 at the Ancol Dream Park, on the northern coast of the capital city of Jakarta.

The 6th TAFISA (The Association For International Sport for All) World Sport for All Games will be held under the patronage of UNESCO and IOC, acknowledging once again the important role that traditional sports and games play in shaping civilizations and cultures, national identities, and cross-boundaries unity.

Organized by the Indonesian Sport for All Federation (FORMI), the 6th TAFISA World Sport for All Games will be a spectacular display of color, dance, sports, culture, peace, friendship and fun. With the spirit of sport for all, The TAFISA Games will feature various traditional sport and games, disability sports, mass sports, special sport, and physical health sport. Aside from various sporting events, there will also be cultural performances as well as tourism and culinary promotions.

Already 6,881delegates from 73 TAFISA member countries have confirmed their participations in 86 sport categories. The games will be highlighted with various exciting activities such as International Traditional Sport and Games (TSG) Demonstrations, Martial Arts Festival, World Lion and Dragon Dance, Zumba Party, Wonderful Poco-poco Marathon, Skateboard Championship, BMX Championship, Freestyle Soccer, Wall Climbing, Airsoftgun, World Bodybuilding Championship, and a whole lot more.

As  special highlight, the games will also feature an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people walking together Stilts participated by2,600 participants besides a Mass Zumba exercise with 13,000 participants. There will also be the mass World Walking Day Fun Walk with 30,000 people, to take place at the Benyamin Sueb area, Kemayoran. Meanwhile the global forum carrying the theme ‘Active Cities’ will involve discussions among 140 TAFISA member countries and 260 Indonesian delegates.

Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo is expected to officially open the 6th TAFISA World Sport for All Games  The organization of the Jakarta  event has  involved the collaboration of 19 ministries and related Government Bodies.

The TAFISA Games 2016 offers a voyage of discovery around the globe, as delegations from every corner of the world are invited to demonstrate their own traditional sports and/or games, with selected delegations receiving significant financial support from the Games Organizing Committee. There are also opportunities to host your sport’s international championships, or experience new TSGs from around the world as a spectator and through audience interaction.

The TAFISA World Sport for All Games brings together delegations from countries all over the world to present their traditional sports and games (TSG) to a large international audience. As a unique and colorful stage for the art of movement the primary aims of the Games are to preserve and promote TSG and therefore national identity and heritage; encourage cooperation between nations; provide experience exchange opportunities; and the main thing of course is to have fun.

Aside from an important international sporting games, the event will also give the opportunity for all  to explore the fascinating splendors in the capital city of Jakarta, such as the tropical getaway of the Thousand Islands in the Bay of Jakarta, the nostalgic heritage site of the Old Batavia complex, shopping spree at Glodok, and  a host more.
