As Tana Toraja lies in the central highlands of South Sulawesi some 328 km north of Makassar, capital city of South Sulawesi, Toraja can be reached by plane from here to a small airport at Pongtiku near Makale, the largest town in Tana Toraja. Nonetheless, most still prefer the 8 hours overland journey, which, though strenuous, provides unforgettable scenery.
