Sriwijaya Air to Fly from Guangzhou to Kualanamu, Medan, and Bintan in the Riau Islands

 

On Monday, 30 May 2016, Indonesia’s LCC airline, Sriwijaya Air is scheduled to launch its maiden flight from Guangzhou (China) to Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, capital of North Sumatra, entry to panoramic Lake Toba.

Using Boeing 737-800 aircraft the airline will serve this route once in five days which will not only allow tourists from Guangzhou to visit Medan and Lake Toba, as well as other attractive destinations on Sumatra, but also give the opportunity for holiday-makers from North Sumatra to travel to China, thereby increasing the friendship between the two regions and attract more investments in this province, said North Sumatra China Business Council Chairman, Tansri Chandra.

The flight has been delayed from October last year as the infrastructure had not been completed then, explained Indonesian Consul for Immigration for Guangzhou, Jamaruli Manihuruk.

In addition to flying to and from Medan, Sriwijaya Air also plans to fly Guangzhou-Tanjung Pinang capital of the Riau Islands on Bintan island facing Singapore starting mid-2016.  Also planned are flights from Tanjung Pinang to Hongkong and Tanjung-Pinang – Macau, awaiting completion of a large-scale investment on a resort on the east coast of Bintan.

Called the Sun Resort, located by the village of Batulicin, the company has planted its cornerstone in February starting construction on a large mall envisaged to sell imported popular Chinese goods and Indonesian products.

In the second phase the company will build a residential estate with hotels, a convention center, a hospital, and schools providing primary to university education, reports tanjungpinangpos.co.id.
