Another Elephant Calf born at the Tesso Nilo National Park in Riau, Sumatra

On 1st of June 2016,  the tame elephant named Lisa gave birth to her third calf in the Tesso Nilo National Park in the Riau province on Sumatra.  Both mother and calf are doing well said Head of the Park, Darmanto.  Today the calf can be observed suckling from its mother, reported detik.com.  The young elephant has as yet not been given a name, however, awaiting this to be given by the Minister of Forestry, Mrs. Siti Nurbaya.

The Tesso Nilo Park now counts 7 elephants whose task it is to protect villages from raging wild elephants.  Rangers also regularly mount the elephants to patrol the Park from poachers and deforestation activities.

Last year, when wild fires raged in the Park, the elephants actively helped rangers and firefighters dousing the spreading flames.
