Presidential Palace Masterpiece Paintings Exhibited during August

 

Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo has decided  that in conjunction with Indonesia’s  71st. years commemoration of Independence Day on 17 August 1945, a number of the  precious art collections  that are in the Presidential palaces should be opened for the public to admire and enjoy. Carrying the theme : 17/71, beginning 1st August to 30th August 2016 throughout one month only,  28  original outstanding paintings by master painters from  Raden Saleh, Affandi, Basoeki Abdullah, Miguel Covarrubias, Walter Spies and more, including one by President Soekarno can be viewed at the Galeri Nasional, at Medan Merdeka Timur,  Gambir, Central Jakarta.

This is the first time that a collection of the Presidential Palace has been  moved  to be shown outside the palace. We hope that this collection will inspire the public, said  Minister, Secretary of State Pratikno.  The largest number of the paintings were collected by Indonesia’s first president Soekarno, who was wellknown for his love of the Arts. The paintings are inventory of the Palaces in Jakarta, Bogor, Cipanas and Yogyakarta, said the Presidential Palace release.

Paintings exhibited show Indonesian scenes during the people’s revolt against colonialism for National Independence, from the time of Prince Diponegoro in the early 1800’s to the 1950s.
