New Regulations regarding Domestic Travel in Indonesia

 

The Indonesian government has updated the regulations for domestic travel during the Covid-19 pandemic, contained in the Task Force Circular Letter (SE) Number 12 of 2021. The background of the issuance of this SE is the need for provisions regulating the travel of domestic people during a pandemic to prevent and break the chain of COVID-19 spread which has the potential to increase through human mobility or travel.

Coordinator of the COVID-19 Task Force Expert Team, Wiku Adisasmito, said this arrangement was carried out by the government to prevent an increase in Covid-19 cases during the long holiday period in the country. "In the holidays last year, the increase was high for daily cases and weekly deaths. This incident must not happen again this year and in the future," he explained.

The domestic travel provisions are divided into two: for the destinations of Bali Island and Java Island & Outside Java Island. Those who are planning to travel domestically in Indonesia must do either one of the following requirements:

Bali Island


Air

- Show negative RT-PCR results maximum 2x24 hours before departure,

- Show negative Rapid Antigen test results maximum 2x24 hours before departure, or

- Show negative result of the GeNose C19 test at the airport prior to departure as a condition of travel.

Sea and Land

- Show the negative RT-PCR results maximum 2x24 hours before departure,

- Show the negative Rapid Antigen test results maximum 2x24 hours before departure, or

- Perform GeNose C19 test at the Harbor or Terminal and must show a negative result.

 

Java Island & Outside Java Island

Air

- Submit the negative RT-PCR results maximum 3x24 hours before departure,

- Submit the negative Rapid Antigen test results maximum 2x24 hours before departure, or

- Submit negative result of the GeNose C19 test at the airport prior to departure

Sea

- Submit the negative RT-PCR results maximum 3x24 hours before departure, or

- Perform GeNose C19 test at the harbor and must show a negative result.

Land Public Transportation

- Those who travel by land public transportation will be subjected to a random rapid antigen test/GeNose C19 test if needed by the Regional COVID-19 Task Force.

Land Private Transportation

- Those who travel by land private transportation is recommended to do RT-PCR/Rapid Antigen test result for a maximum of 3x24 hours before departure, or

- Travelers are recommended to perform GeNose test in the rest area and show a negative result upon departure.

- Regional COVID-19 Task Force will perform a random GeNose C19 test if needed.

Intercity Trains

- Those who travel by land private transportation must submit negative RT-PCR/Rapid Antigen test result for a maximum of 3x24 hours before departure, or

- Travelers must perform GeNose test and show a negative result in the train station before departure.

Sea Crossing

- Those who travel by land private transportation must submit negative RT-PCR/Rapid Antigen test result for a maximum of 3x24 hours, or

- Travelers must perform GeNose test in the harbor before departure.

 

Furthermore, travelers are strictly required to comply with health protocols, such as: wearing a mask, social distancing, and frequently washing hands with soap or hand sanitizer.
