Water Village

Located in the Baru Tengah District, West Balikpapan, and well known as a natural tourism spot. The village that once delivered Balikpapan to receive the 2013 Urban Management Innovation
(IMP) the award was indeed proof of the success of the Balikpapan city government in turning slums into a neatly arranged and greener area. It is called the village of water because this village stands on sea water. Distance: 7.3km from Semayang port.

Samboja Lestari (1 hour 16 minutes by car)

Samboja Lestari is home to one of the world’s largest sun bear projects. Visitors can help with the maintenance of enclosures, observations on the behavior, preparation and giving of food. Activities at the sun bear sanctuary take place from 8 am to 4 pm. The bear facility is a short 15 minutes walk from samboja lodge. Samboja Lestari also the first of such program established by the Borneo orangutan survival (BOS) foundation in 1991, specifically to provide care and rehabilitation for displaced or orphaned orangutans rescued from area caused by habitat loss.

Caribbean Island Waterpark (32 minutes by car)

This family recreational space prides itself as the biggest of its kind in Eastern Indonesia. Its waterpark boasts swirling slides and massive donut floats for those looking to splash around in the pool. An aquatic performance is also regularly held at an open stage, and visitors interested in seeing it all from a bird’s eye view can also go on the flying fox.

Margomulyo Mangrove Forest (1 hour 22 minutes by car)

This mangrove forest is the natural habitat of various species of fish, birds, and many other faunas. Visitors may even catch sightings of the probosci's monkey early in the morning. Located in the heart of the city, this forest offers a breath of fresh air with its lush greens and a picturesque view over the wooden bridge that crosses through the area.

Teritip Crocodile Farm (1 hour by car)

From the little baby crocodiles to the jumbo-sized reptiles, this farm has it all. Approximately 1,450 crocodiles inhabit this farm, including the endangered freshwater crocodile and sepit crocodile. Visitors may opt to give a hand (guided by the wrangler) at feeding the crocodiles.

Bekapai Park (8 minutes by car)

When night falls, bask in the colorful lights of this city park. This spot is particularly popular among young people, who like to gather around the fountain and socialize. Visitors can find vendors of various food and beverages offering snacks for their laid-back evening.

Monpera (6 minutes by car)

This monument commemorates the struggles of the local people in taking their land back from colonizers. The white-sand beach serves as a stunning backdrop to the grand statue, which is surrounded by a manicured park.

Mahavihara Budhamanggala (31 minutes by car)

Located on a hill in the heart of Balikpapan, sits a modern temple which said to be the largest in Indonesia. In this Buddhist temple, visitors will find tranquility among the noisy bustles of the city. Statues and carvings are painted immaculately in gold, creating a vibrant contrast against the solid stones. A sleeping Buddha statue or Dhammasala Mangalabharaba painted in gold nestles in the main building in the center of the complex which also boasts lovely gardens, turtle ponds, and water fountains.

Kampoeng Timoer (17 minutes by car)

Taste and take home the local seafood savory snacks, such as peyek, crispy crackers with crabs, and crab floss. These snacks are available in original, spicy, and black pepper flavor.

Pasar Inpres Kebun Sayur (17 minutes by car)

Experience the hustle and bustle of the local life as you go through stalls of fruit, vegetables, and spices in search of a traditional souvenir. Get the unique local batik products, woven sarongs, and the signature Dayak-patterned clothing and haggle for a bargain.

The Beach House Restaurant (17 minutes by car)

This outdoor restaurant takes you to the beachside for a lovely dining experience with a refreshing fresh coconut for your beverage. A pool table is also available for an after-dinner game with friends and fellow diners.
