President Jokowi Welcomed the G20 Summit Delegates

(Nusa Dua, November 15, 2022) – The G20 Summit officially started on Tuesday (15/11/2022) morning, at the Apurva Kempinski Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali. The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, welcomed the delegates one by one before entering the summit room, starting at 09.00 AM Central Indonesia Time (WITA).

Once their vehicle stopped in front of the hotel lobby, the delegates were ushered in through a red-carpeted hallway to the area where President Joko Widodo officially welcomed them. Each delegation shook hands and shared a photo frame with President Joko Widodo in the welcoming area against a backdrop of three flames.

Later, President Joko Widodo invited all the guests into the summit room.

President Joko Widodo first welcomed the delegation consisting of leaders of international institutions or organizations as well as heads of state/heads of government who were not members of the G20. The reception was then followed by the G20 member delegates.

The non-G20 delegates who attended the summit were the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong; the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte; ADB President, Masatsugu Asakawa; IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva; ILO Managing Director, Gilbert F Houngbo; WHO Managing Director, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus; the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame; and European Council President, Charles Michel. There was also a delegation from Fiji, represented by the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Fiji; Queen Inoke Kubuabola.

The President's next guests later that morning included the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen; the President of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi; ISDB President, Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser; WEF Chair, Klaus Martin Schwab; and OECD Secretary-General, Mathias Cormann. 

They were all followed by the arrival of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of Canada; Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Japan; Fumio Kishida, the President of South Africa; Cyril Ramaphosa, the Prime Minister of Australia; Anthony Albanese, German Delegation; Olaf Scholz, UN Secretary-General; António Guterres, the President of Türkiye; Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as the Foreign Affairs Minister of Mexico; Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon. 

Moments later, the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk-Yeol; the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández; the Foreign Affairs Minister of Russia, Sergei Lavrov; the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi; as well as the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; followed suit.

Afterward, the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni; the President of France, Emmanuel Macron; and the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping; arrived at the venue.

After a long period of greetings and shaking hands with the guests of the G20 Summit, President Joko Widodo eventually welcomed the arrival of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, who was also the final guest of the summit. They all then proceeded to enter the conference hall.
