No.74/SP/TKM-ASEAN2023/ENG/5/2023

West Manggarai, 11 May 2023 – Indonesian President Joko Widodo will announce the declaration or final outcome document of the 42nd ASEAN Summit held in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) from 9 to 11 May 2023.

This was conveyed by the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah on Thursday, May 11, 2023.

"We are still awaiting the final result of this ASEAN Summit, which will be announced by the President," said Teuku Faizasyah.

According to Teuku, the declaration that will be announced by President Joko Widodo has been agreed upon by the ASEAN member countries. There will potentially be ten points in the declaration that are conveyed based on the result of several meetings conducted during the 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023.

"To my knowledge, there are ten points, usually called delivery or leader's declaration," said Teuku.

He also mentioned three topics that may potentially be included in the declaration of the 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023, namely human trafficking, the use of currencies other than the dollar, and the roadmap for Timor-Leste's full membership.

All three are expected to be included in the declaration as they have recently been the focus of ASEAN member countries.

"Probably these three topics. Through this declaration there is an agreement at the leader level," he added.

In addition, he also stated that all ASEAN member countries must implement the declaration that has been agreed upon in the ASEAN Summit 2023 in Labuan Bajo, despite the absence of the heads of state who did not attend the summit. This is because all ASEAN member countries have agreed on the implementation of the agreement.

The follow-up actions may be in the form of cooperation carried out by relevant government agencies in ASEAN countries. Such a cooperation may be adjusted to the declaration.

"Establishing cooperation in a certain sector and also identifying areas of cooperation agreed upon in a concrete manner," said Teuku.

As previously reported, on the first day of the ASEAN Summit 2023, President Jokowi would chair five meetings of the 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023 at the Meruorah Hotel, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province.

The five meetings are the 42nd ASEAN Summit (Opening and Plenary Session), the ASEAN Leaders Interface Meeting with Representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the ASEAN Leaders Interface Meeting with Representatives of ASEAN Youth, the ASEAN Leaders Interface Meeting with Representatives of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), and the ASEAN Leaders Interface Meeting with the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Community's Post-2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV).
