ArchDaily Awards Microlibrary Warak Kayu Semarang as Building of the Year 2021

 

On February 18, 2021, Microlibrary Warak Kayu in Semarang, was awarded the Building of the Year 2021 by ArchDaily, creating Indonesia’s first-ever award in the prestigious architectural platform.

This award showcases projects chosen by ArchDaily readers, bringing up an estimated 200,000 of total votes. Winning in the Public and Landscape Architecture category, Microlibrary Warak Kayu is one of the 15 architectures selected for Building of the Year 2021.

Microlibrary Warak Kayu has proven to be an exemplary monument in Indonesia. In 2020, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified this landmark building with high standards of environmental and social use of wood materials.

Located on Jalan Dr Sutomo, Semarang, as one of SHAU's (Suryawinata Haizelman Architecture Urbanism) iconic design buildings, focuses on creating socially-performative multi-functional community spaces with environmentally-conscious design and materials. It is initiated to increase interests in reading for children while also aiming to serve low-income communities.

The unique design, which elevates the traditional ‘rumah panggung’’, has inviting facilities that attract the younger societies. These include a wooden swing and wide tribune seating.
