Atambua International Motocross 2017: Motocross Battle of Two Countries

 

Sharing the border at Timor Island, sports enthusiasts from Indonesia's West Timor and Timor Leste on East Timor Island will engage in a friendly battle where some of the best moto crossers from both countries will showcase their exceptional skills at the Atambua International Motocross 2017.

The grand cross border tourism event is scheduled to take place on 12th to 13th August 2017 at the Haliwen Circuit, at the capital city of Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, located just along the border with Timor Leste.

The thrilling Motocross 'battle' will feature hundreds of top moto crossers from Timor Leste as well as Atambua's finest riders. There will also be some action from Australian crossers who will appear as special guests.

"We invite crossers from Timor Leste to join in this most exciting event. Please make your registration soon, the Office of Tourism of Belu Regency is at your service. Contact us, and we will happily help you" said Head of the Office of Tourism of Belu Regency, Johanes Andes Prihatin.

Andes Prihatin further added that the circuit is very ideal for crossers from Timor Leste as well as for tourists, since the circuit is only 30 minutes' drive from the Motaain border post. "The arena is really vast and can accommodate thousands of people so it is completely ideal also for supporters from Timor Leste" added Johanes Andes Prihatin.

From the border post to the circuit, access roads and other infrastructure are now in good condition. The Regency of Belu has also prepared public transport so that those from Timor Leste do not need to charter cars. "There are mikrolet public transport on standby that will take passengers to the venue of the event with fare costing IDR5000. However, if you wish, there are also plenty of car charters options in Atambua" explained Johanes Andes Prihatin.

Nowadays, travelers from Timor Leste can easily enter Indonesia. The Visa Free policy which has been implemented enables them to enter and visit Indonesia anytime they please. "The border post has also been rebuilt into an excellent condition, and comes complete with all needed facilities including Air Conditioning. If you wish to enter through Atambua's Airport it will also be more convenient since the circuit is only 5 minutes away. Flights to Atambua are available from Kupang and Bali." Said Johanes Andes Prihatin.

Head of the Office of Tourism added that this year the plan is to extend the runway from 1,600 meters to 1,800 meters. Currently, only Wings Air serves flights to Atambua, however, with the runway extension, Garuda Indonesia Airline is also expected to open flight routes to Atambua.

Minister of Tourism, Afrief Yahya commented that tourism is currently being rapidly developed in various islands across the archipelago. The Minister explained that aside from the main 'tourists' pockets' of Bali, Jakarta, and Batam-Bintan, more 'tourists pockets' must be developed all over the country. "Aside from culture and nature, one of the tourism potentials that can attract a large number of of tourists is Sports tourism which combines sport activities with tourism." Through the Atambua International Motocross 2017 it is expected that tourism to Attambua as well as other cross border points will grow significantly.
