What Is Pidie Jaya Regency Museum?

The Pidie Jaya Regency Museum is an ethnographic museum in Pidie Jaya, Aceh Province, Indonesia, dedicated to preserving cultural artifacts and educating visitors about local history and traditions. The museum is located in Taman Kota Pidie Jaya, Manyang Lamcok, Meureudu and is housed in a traditional Acehnese Rumoh Aceh style building. 

 

History of the Museum

Established on June 7, 2020, the museum was inaugurated as part of the regional government’s cultural conservation efforts. It was officially opened by the Regent of Pidie Jaya with support from Aceh provincial authorities. The museum’s location in a city park next to the Bupati’s office highlights its role as a cultural hub in the community.

The Pidie Jaya Regency Museum is classified as an ethnographic museum, focused on collecting and displaying cultural objects related to the daily life, traditions, and heritage of the Pidie Jaya community. While the museum is in the process of formal national classification, it already plays an important role in Indonesia’s museum landscape.

The museum is managed by the Department of Education and Culture of Pidie Jaya Regency, working with local cultural organizations and government agencies to maintain exhibits, organize educational programs, and preserve artifact collections.

The museum houses a diverse range of cultural items, including:

  • Handicrafts & Arts: Handcrafted items representing the artistic traditions of Pidie Jaya. 

Local reports indicate that the museum’s collection totals around 364 items, with the largest portion being ethnographic objects.
