The museum was established on 10 November 1991, coinciding with Heroes’ Day, to honor the bravery of Surabaya’s fighters. It was officially inaugurated on 19 February 2000 by Indonesia’s fourth President, Abdurrahman Wahid.

Designed underground, the museum preserves the integrity of the Heroes Monument while housing valuable historical materials. Museum 10 November preserves memories and artifacts from the days leading up to and during the fierce battle of 10 November 1945.

Museum 10 November is a specialized museum established to preserve and present the history of the Battle of Surabaya on 10 November 1945. Its primary role is to document and educate the public about the heroic resistance of Surabaya’s citizens against Allied forces.

Located in Surabaya City, East Java, the museum is officially registered under the National Museum Registration Number (NPNM) 35.78.K.05.0061. Uniquely, the museum is built underground beside the Heroes Monument to maintain the monument’s visual prominence.

Type, Ownership, and Management

Museum 10 November is classified as a Specialized Museum with a Type B designation. The museum is owned by the Surabaya City Government and managed by the Department of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism of Surabaya City.

Daily operations are carried out by the Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of the Heroes Monument and Museum 10 November, ensuring professional museum management and public services.

Museum Collections

Museum 10 November displays at least nine key collections, including Bung Tomo’s radio, Bung Tomo’s diary, double-layered war helmets, military uniforms, and various historical firearms. The museum’s most iconic collection is the original audio recording of Bung Tomo’s speeches, which once ignited the spirit of resistance among Surabaya’s people.
