Port of Marina del Rey

Places of Interest Around Marina del Rey

Lombok is an island of 4,514 square kilometers in the West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, with approximately 3.3 million inhabitants. The island has a unique circular shape with a tail-like shape on its southwest part. It shares some resemblance with Bali in their cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. It is also surrounded by small islands, the Gili.

Since the 2000’s, Lombok shows a steady growth of their tourism sector, which primarily shows in the increasing visitor arrivals. With stunning natural environment that has largely been unspoiled, this area offers a tranquil charm that spreads over its coastlines, forests, and grand mountains. Although beaches are quite a distance from the port of Lembar, every moment of travel is an adventure in this unrefined beauty of an island.

Kuta Beach (48.3 Km)

Not to be confused with the beach in Bali, Kuta Beach is located on the south of the island. It boasts 7.2km of clear white sand and dramatic waves. This is where many of the beachside accommodations and amenities are located, although it does not get crowded or polluted.

Attractions in Kuta Beach include:

  • Relax and sunbathe under the clear sky
  • Swim in the cool blue-green water
  • Watch the waves from a nearby hill
  • See the sunset on the horizon

Pink Beach (83.3 Km)

Pink Beach is located in the further southeast of Lombok. Unlike any beach in the area, this coastline was painted with pink sand due to the microorganisms in its coral breaks. It is advised to rent a driver or take a guided tour, as the road can be quite tricky.

Attractions in Pink Beach include:

  • Swim in the clear waters
  • Frolic by the beach
  • Watch the colorful landscape from a high rock
  • Watch the sunset

Mawun Beach (49.7 Km)

A short distance from the city downtown, Mawun Beach is a sight to behold. Its sprawling coastline contrasts the fine white sand against the turquoise sea, with tourists and beach-goers few and far between.

Attractions in Mawun Beach include:

  • Rent a sunbed and get a tan
  • Swim in the shallow end of the crystal clear water
  • Try the local foods and snacks
  • Stroll along the vast shoreline

Tanjung Aan Beach (54.9 Km)

Consisting of two bays, Tanjung Aan sits on the south of the island. The long, stretching bays are plenty of space for visitors to find a peaceful spot to sit or lie around in its fine white sand. The bays are separated by a hill that provides a stunning view overlooking the sea.

Attractions in Tanjung Aan Beach include:

  • Swim in the bay
  • Sunbathe under the warm sun
  • Try tasty local dishes
  • Purchase locally made sarongs and crafts
  • Watch the sun set behind the contours of the island

Intermediate/Advanced: check out Desert Point (54.7 Km), Ekas Beach (66.4 Km), and Mawi Bay (51.8 Km)

Kitesurfing

Kitesurfing allows its riders to glide through the waters according to the winds. The large special kite is propelled across the water and takes the riders on a unique experience on the sea. Kitesurfing is available in Kaliantan Beach (76.9 Km).

Paddleboarding

Stand tall against the rolling waves of Lombok in this exciting activity. This utilizes a surfboard supported by a paddle that the rider uses as an oar in the sea. This activity is available in Gili Trawangan Island (42.2 Km).

Snorkeling

The pristine waters of Lombok allow visitors to discover beautiful coral gardens and rich marine life. Kit rentals are available in snorkeling spots. Some of the best snorkeling spots include Belongas Bay (33.1 Km), Senggigi Beach (39.8 Km), and Gili Meno Island (53.2 Km).

Scuba Diving

Lombok comprises many newly-discovered diving sites that remain unspoiled. Colorful sea creatures, big fish, and even hammerhead sharks inhabit its turquoise waters. Please note that this activity requires relevant certifications. Courses and gear rentals are available upon request. Some of the best diving sites include Belongas Bay (33.1 Km), Tampah Beach (52.5 Km), and Gerupuk Bay (57.1 Km).

Tetebatu Village (59.1 Km)

This village is a lovely change of pace from the coastal scene of Lombok. It sits among sprawling rice paddies and a local community that is rich with indigenous culture. Learn the traditional handicraft and purchase unique souvenirs in their market.

Tanjung Ringgit (83.5 Km)

Tanjung Ringgit is known as one of the best trekking spots in the island. It boasts stunning views overlooking the sea and Mount Rinjani in the distance. Along the way, trekkers will also come across abandoned Japanese bunkers from World War II.

Tiu Kelep Waterfall (106 Km)

Tiu Kelep is located in the Senaru village. This stunning 45-meter waterfall is tucked in the middle of a lush emerald rainforest among diverse local flora and fauna. It is also a fantastic place to swim after a long trek to the site.

Mount Rinjani (122 Km)

This active volcano is laid out with a challenging yet rewarding trek to the top. Overlooking the crater lake, this mountain boasts a stunning view of the sunrise.
