Kayakers, watersports enthusiasts, and those who simply love the beauty of nature, get set to travel to Lake Toba in North Sumatra as this priority destination prepares to stage the International Toba Kayak Marathon 2017, scheduled to take place from 25th to 27th July 2017. Carrying the tagline: “Kayaking on the Top of a Super Volcano”, the event will be centered around the Balige-Marom-Situmurun area.

“This international scale event is projected to be participated by no less than 200 national and international kayakers. Kayaking will be the icon of watersports in Lake Toba since this event will be the first of its kind in Indonesia,” said Head of Sumatra Rowing Community, Charles Simson Panjaitan in their official press release. Lake Toba has been considered perfect for the event since Toba has relatively calm waters and offers astonishing natural scenery favored by participating kayakers.

Meanwhile, Regent of Toba Samosir Regency, Darwin Siagian calls for closer coordination among all organizing parties involved, both locally and nationally to support the success of this event. ”The event is projected to be held annually, therefore, it will be the icon of Sports tourism in Lake Toba. Moreover, through this event, kayaking will be a perfect option for recreation and sport for tourists,” said Regent Darwin Siagian. The largest Volcanic Crater Lake in the world, Lake Toba is truly one of the most amazing marvels of the world. At over 1,145 square kilometers, with a depth of 450 meters, the lake is highlighted with the Samosir Island in its center which is roughly the size of Singapore.
