The Imogiri area is venerated for being the royal cemetery complex for the kings and queens of the Mataram dynasty, located in Yogyakarta. Perched on the slopes of Mt. The shortest stairway contains 9 steps, a symbol of the Walisongo, the nine first promulgators of Islam on Java, while the longest 346 steps mark the 346 years that it took to complete the complex. The name "seribu batu" meaning "a thousand rocks" refers to the rocky terrain of the site, while "songgo langit" or "upholding the sky" refers to the hill nearby, that looks as if it upholds the clouds and supports the sky.
