Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) Indonesia 2017 on Beautiful LOMBOK island

Following last year's success, the beautiful island of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara Province will again host this year's international cycling marathon Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) Indonesia 2017, scheduled to take place on 3rd September 2017. The race is part of the GFNY World series, which will have its pinnacle in New York, USA on 20th May 2018. Located directly adjacent to Bali, the island of Lombok combines challenges with stunning natural beauty.

The race features two different courses: the competitive long distance course (180 km) and the non-competitive short distance course (80 km). Both courses will start and end at Senggigi, Lombok's famed beach resort. Cyclists will be able to spin their way across breathtaking landscapes that Lombok has to offer. Unlike its well-visited neighbor Bali, Lombok is a more laid back tranquil island bordered by swathes of white sandy beaches and transparent crystal waters. Senggigi is a resort area on the west coast of Lombok and is the perfect base for participants to explore the island.

The GFNY race will start from the north side of Senggigi, then continues along the coast before reaching Mataram City (capital of West Nusa Tenggara Province). Passing the Bull Monument and the Monument of a Thousand Mosques, the route will take cyclists to Sekotong Bawah, passing charming traditional villages, and on to Sekotong Tengah with its beautiful rice paddies, gold mines, and traditional markets. The toughest challenge awaits riders at Nambung area. Here, the route is highlighted with many steep climbs and narrow tracks that lie directly on the edge of a valley. There will be a climb at a near 60 degree angle where cyclists will eventually have to step down and push their bikes over the hill. However, this is also where they will get to see the most stunning sceneries of the island. A perfect blend between challenge and splendor.

From Nambung, the route continues to the similarly hilly areas of BatuJangkih where cyclists will take their lunch break. Hereafter, the route turns north to Central Lombok and the Pusuk Pass where cyclists will be presented with breathtaking views of Mount Rinjani. Turning around at Nipah, then on to Malimbu, all riders will return to Senggigi and the Finish line at Santosa Resort. In total, this 180km course should take approximately 10 hours to complete.
