Perched on the east coast of Southeast Sulawesi, Kendari, the capital city of Southeast Sulawesi Province is blessed with a number of beautiful beaches. One of these is Nambo Beach: A lovely relaxing coastline that definitely lives up to its name, since Nambo is derived from the local word “meambo” which means “Excellent”.

Vast stretches of soft white sands over a flat coastline makes it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The beach is also a perfect playground for children and all members of the family, especially when tide rolls in  and breaks  on the shore. And when the sea subsides, the locals frequently search for some of the critters living underneath the sand.

Along the shore are a number of huts which are available for rent. This is the perfect place to enjoy refreshing coconut water mixed with palm sugar accompanied by the soft breeze that gently blows among the trees. You can also rent swimming tubes if you wish to play around in the calm waters.

Another attractuion  that makes the beach special is the Bajo Village at the south end of the beach. Here you can observe the daily life of fishermen as they head out to sea or when they return with their bountiful catch.

Situated on the eastern part of Sulawesi, Nambo Beach is also the perfect place to enjoy the spectacular sunrise. This can make a perfect start to your adventure around  Kendari and Southeast Sulawesi.

To Stay,

The Office of Tourism of Kendari has a wooden cottage just a little behind the huts on the beach which is available for rent. The cottage is made resembling the traditional house of Sulawesi. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 shared bathrooms within the cottage.
