10 Days 9 Night Rhapsody of Sulawesi

A 10-day journey to unveil the landscapes of South Sulawesi focusing on the strong preserved culture and beliefs of the Torajan ethnic group. Day 1 Arrival Makassar (No Meals)     
Meet & Greet upon arrival at  Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, then directly transfer to hotel. Check-in and the remainder of the day is free at leisure to unwind after your long haul flight. Overnight at hotel of choice in Makassar        

Day 2 Makassar – Parepare – Rantepao (Toraja) (Breakfast, Lunch)    

Breakfast served at the hotel. Check out then drive towards Rantepao, the capital of North Toraja regency. It is about 3-hour drive until lunch stop at a local restaurant in Parepare, providing you opportunity to sample the local cuisine. Continue driving for another 5 hours to arrive in Rantepao (Toraja),  check-in and have a restful evening with dinner provided (food only).

Day 3 Toraja Highlands include trekking (Breakfast, Lunch)    
After breakfast, get ready to discover the beautiful landscape of Toraja Highlands. (Please wear comfortable clothing, good walking shoes, hat and sunscreen). Your excursion today includes a leisure trek through the local village in Batutumonga where you can enjoy superb views over Rantepao and surrounding valleys. Lunch is served at a local restaurant offering a view of Rantepao. In the afternoon, visit Bori village to see the megalithic stone monuments. Discuss with your guide for possibility to attend a Torajan funeral (Except Saturday & Sunday - Not for the squeamish, donation is expected and please wear dark color clothing). Transfer back to your hotel, dinner is provided (food only).

Day 4 Ancient Graves of Toraja Highlands (Breakfast, Lunch)    
After breakfast, embark on a full day excursion to discover the spirit of the land and the culture of Toraja highlands. Observe a cliff displaying ancestral sculptures and the hanging graves in Lemo. Continue to Londa for its ancient ceremonial burial place. Lunch is provided at a local restaurant. Visits to Kambira and Suaya allow you to discover more of the types of Torajan funeral graves. In Kete Kesu village, admire traditional Torajan houses ‘Tongkonan’ and ‘Tau Tau’ woodcarving workshop. Transfer back to your hotel in the afternoon, dinner is served at the hotel (food only).

Day 5 Toraja – Gunung Nona – Sengkang (Breakfast, Lunch)    
Check out after breakfast, drive south towards the town of Sengkang located on the east side of the second largest lake on the whole island of Sulawesi. Lunch is served enroute at a local restaurant. Continue driving and have a quick stop at Gunung Nona for its panoramic landscape. Arrive in Sengkang in the afternoon, your sightseeing transfer include cruising on Lake Tempe using a small boat to discover the daily life at floating settlements and to catch the sunset over the lake. Check-in at a local hotel nearby for a restful evening.

Day 6 Sengkang to Makassar (Breakfast, Lunch)   

Simple breakfast is served at the hotel. Check out then drive back to Makassar. Arrive approximately 4 hours later then directly transfer for lunch. Proceed with city tour to discover the legacy of Gowa Kingdom and the history of the city. Observe the picturesque old phinisi at Paotere harbour, the oldest harbour in Indonesia which used to be a major trading hub in its heyday. Fort Rotterdarm with typical Portuguese architectural style was built in 1545 by the Dutch on top of an existing fort of the Gowa Kingdom. La Galigo Museum allows you to discover more of the city’s history. Catch the sunset at you stroll along the iconic Losari Waterfront. Afterwards, check-in at your choice of hotel in Makassar for a restful evening.

Day 7 Makassar – Gorontalo by domestic flight (Breakfast, Dinner)   
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer directly to the airport for your flight to Gorontalo city  lying in the northern tip of Sulawesi on Minahasa Peninsula. Arrive at Jalaluddin Airport, you will be met by our driver for private transfer to Pulo Cinta.  A 2-hour scenic drive showcasing tropical scenery gets you to the village of Potanga in Boalemo regency, where a boat awaits. Arrive at the eco resort 15 minutes later, check-in and enjoy a relaxing stay in a rustic over-water wooden bungalow.  Using 100% solar energy, each bungalow has a private sundeck and terrace with direct access to the water. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your own leisure with unlimited coffee / tea, drinking water, dinner and snorkling equipment provided at no extra cost.

Day 8 Pulo Cinta Free at Leisure (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Wake up to the sunlight and gentle sound of the waves. Enjoy breakfast while taking in the breathtaking view of the azure blue water environment. Located within the area of the Coral Triangle, the eco resort is surrounded by pristine dive sites waiting to be discovered. Licensed divers may opt for scuba diving (additional charges apply). End your day relaxing at your private deck as the sun begins to set.    
Note : Best period for scuba diving generally runs from November to April

Day 9 Pulo Cinta Free at Leisure (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Today is a full day at leisure, providing you a chance to do optional activities that suit your interests (additional charge applies). For cultural immersion, opt for Boalemo excursion (includes snorkling) to observe the simple daily life at the coastal village where the famous sea gypsy tribe of Bajo (or Bajau) have settled in semi permanent housing. Another option is excursion to Ayuhulalo waterfall which includes soft-trekking and picnic lunch nearby a three-tiered waterfall.

Day 10 Departure Pulo Cinta – Transfer to airport (Breakfast)
Breakfast is served at the resort.  At the designated time, transfer to the mainland by boat and on to the airport in Gorontalo using air-conditioned vehicle for your onward journey with wonderful memories of Sulawesi.
