No.13/SP/TKM-AISFORUM2023/10/2023

Jakarta, 2 October 2023 – Bali Regional Police will deploy 4,000 personnel to secure the High-Level Meeting (HLM) of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum that will gather in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali, on 10—11 October.

This was confirmed by the Bali Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Ida Bagus Kade Putra Narendra in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday, 2 October.

He explained that the dispatched personnel would reinforce the forces from the National Police (Polri) Headquarters and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).

"It (security of 2023 HLM of the AIS Forum) is centrally coordinated. We are here as backup alongside the Udayana Military Command. We provide backup according to our respective allocations with 4,000 personnel," he said.

He also mentioned that the regional police have coordinated with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia regarding preparations leading up to the High-Level Meeting.

The National Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces have begun distributing equipment from various locations to Bali to support the security of the international meeting.

According to the Regional Police Chief, the situation in Bali is currently conducive and no prominent issues require special attention from the Police or the TNI.

He also explained that the security arrangements for the 2023 HLM of the AIS Forum will be similar to the security measures taken for the G20 Summit in November 2022, namely with a three-ring security scheme.

"Yesterday (Sunday, 1 October), the security measures for the delegations have also been discussed. There will be ring 1, ring 2, and ring 3, mirroring the G20 Summit’s security setup," he said.

In addition to finalizing preparations for security personnel, Bali Regional Police have conducted preliminary checks on the venues that will be used for the 1st HLM.

Apart from high-profile leaders of the participating countries, the 1st HLM will also be attended by the high-ranking officials of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) and the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).

The 1st High-Level Meeting of the AIS Forum in Bali will discuss global issues related to maritime affairs with the theme, "Fostering Collaboration, Enabling Innovation for Our Ocean and Our Future”.

"All venues are ready. The command lies in the international security details, TNI, and Polri," said Bali Police Chief Narendra. (Rolandus Nampu/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/Aisah Amanda/Wisnu Wardoyo)
