Batam Goes International: Be at the BATAM INTERNATIONAL CULTURE CARNIVAl 2018

 

Get set for some exciting end of the year festivities! Head to the vibrant island of Batam in the Riau Islands and rev up your adrenaline! From the 8th to 9th December 2018, the main street Jalan Imam Bonjol in downtown Nagoya will be transformed into a massive stage presenting spectacular performances as the Batam International Culture Carnival (BICC) 2018 gets underway.

Celebrating Batam City 189th. Anniversary, locals and tourists are all invited to explore the island’s fascinating art, culture, and tantalizing cuisine.

Adopting the street carnival concept – imaging the famous Jember Fashion Carnival in East Java, - the carnival will feature a parade of artists and celebrities from Indonesia and the international world, presenting: the Sangsapurba Carnival, the Tepak Sirih, Regalia or Cogan, Makyong, Jong, a Seafood Paradise, and an array of art and cultural processions from across the archipelago. The carnival will also be highlighted with a range of lively presentations to include a Fire Magic Show, a Fire Dance, Brazilian Dances, the  Belly Dance, a Body Painting Contest, a Bartender Competition, 3D Mapping, Road Root, Orange Dusk, and plenty more. There will also be popular pop concerts featuring the Batam Guitar Family, the BBDC Bassline, Band Besar BJS, Erio Hutomo, Yemercy, Beungeud, Batam Hip Hop, and more.

BICC 2018 will also feature art and cultural attractions from across the Indonesian islands, among which: the Balinese Ogoh-ogoh, TopengIreng from Magelang in Central Java, a Tor-tor Dance from North Sumatra, Betawi’s Ondel-ondel from Jakarta, Gending Sriwijaya from South Sumatra, and a whole lot more. Meantime, those present will love to dig into the wide variety of yummy food spread out from all across Indonesia.

“This is Batam! Here, attractions grow together along with the rapid development of tourism. Small wonder, therefore, that the island receives more and more international tourists who come not only from neighboring countries like Malaysia and Singapore, but also from other parts of the world” said Minister of Tourism, Arief Yahya. Meanwhile, Person in Charge of the Wonderful Indonesia Calendar of Events in the Ministry of Tourism, Esthy Reko Astuti added that BICC 2018 is a showcase of Indonesia’s richness and grandeur wrapped in a glamorous and spectacular concept. “You will surely regret if you don’t come and watch this,” said Esthy Reko Astuti.

Batam is indeed an important gateway for international tourists to Indonesia. It is the first impression to welcome those from other countries who wish to visit the magical wonders of the country.
