On Tuesday night, 17 January 2012, thousands of teenagers at the ISTORA Senayan building in the Gelora Bung Karno Sports complex poured out their emotions as the Canadian popular rock band Simple Plan hypnotized them with great music on their Get Your Heart on!Tour concert in Jakarta.

As early as 04.00 pm, a queue dominated by teenage girls already formed in front of the outer gate of the Istora Senayan Building, even though the show was scheduled to start only at 08.00pm. As the day turned into night, more and more people crowded, and the excitement grew bigger. When the gates were finally opened, the enthusiastic young spectators raced to the tribunes, eager to get the best spot to enjoy the show.

Music started to play around 08.00 pm. First appearing was Indonesia’s rising rock Band: Kotak. Performing 5 songs, Cella, Tantri and Chua really warmed up the arena and got the crowd jumping off their feet, especially on their energetic closing number “Beraksi”.

The anticipation was almost unbearable, when Simple Plan was about to enter the stage. Endless chants of “Simple Plan!” echoed across the hall.  A teenage girl not able to cope with the hysteria, fainted and received medical treatment, even before Simple Plan appeared.

At precisely 09.00 pm Western Indonesia Time, Pierre Bouvier, David Desrosiers, Jeff Stinco, Sebastian Lefebvre, and Chuck Comeau finally stepped on stage with “Shut Up” accompanied by roaring hysteria from the crowd.”Can’t keep my hands off you” followed quickly, and afterward Pierre, the vocalist, greeted the audience in fluent Bahasa Indonesia:”Terima kasih, Apa Kabar?” (thank you, how are you?). Then continued to play “When I’m gone”,”Addicted”,”My alien”, and “You suck at love”.

Pierre really said Terima Kasih a lot that night, the band even converted the songs Thank You into Terima Kasih, and managed to get the audience to sing along to the song.

As the band play “Astronaut”, Pierre asked the crowd to turn on all their cell phones so they would radiate many colorful lights. These lights represented the stars in the sky which is a perfect visualization of the emotional song which has become the title for the Simple Plan fans. The atmosphere was dramatically altered into a beach party, as “Summer Paradise” was played.

Tantri, the lady vocalist of Kotak, appeared once again on stage and collaborated with Simple Plan in their latest hits “Jet Lag”. As the soft and crunchy voice of Pierre met the heavy and high pitched voice of Tantri, the result was pure awesomeness.

With a mixture of Bahasa Indonesia and English, Pierre said “aku cinta Indonesia, we love the food, we love the girls, many wanita cantik” (I Love Indonesia, we love the food, we love the girls, and there are many beautiful girls here).  Under a roaring hysteria they played “This song saved my life”, “Welcome to my Life”, and “I will do anything”.  Then, the lights were dimmed, and the band left the stage.

Craving for more, the chants “We want more!” grew louder from the audience. The band emerged once again on stage with “Loser of the year” and the song that brought them to fame for the first time “ I am just a kid”. The song “Perfect”, was perfectly played for the finale of the performance, before the band bade farewell to end the show.

After Jakarta, Simple Plan went on to play in Surabaya on Wednesday, 18 January 2012. Performing for the 3rd time in Indonesia, Simple Plan never ceases to amaze their loyal fans and audience. Stating that their performance will not be the last in Indonesia, the band promised to return to Indonesia in the near future.
