Four netizens from China won an exciting three-day trip to Bali for top gainers at the recent Online Quiz held by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. The Quiz was specifically targeted to the Chinese market on Weibo and Weixin, China's equivalent to Facebook and Twitter. The happy winners from Beijing and Guangzhou were : Cao Xiaoshen, Cheng Jie, Liu Ning, and Chen Yunhao.
The Online Quiz was conducted for two weeks from 18th to 30th November 2013. Over 4,500 contestants participated in the quiz before the four winners were selected based on the highest points achieved. Aimed at Chinese social media users, the quiz is intended to promote Indonesia's Tourism in China.
The Quiz forms part of the tourism cooperation program between China and Indonesia that was renewed in October 2013. Indonesia and China agreed to increase tourist visits to each country to 2 million by 2015. In the cooperation agreement, Indonesia offered three main destinations, namely : Yogyakarta, Lombok and Labuan Bajo-Komodo.
With continuing surge in the number of outbound tourists over the years, China is a significant market for Indonesia's tourism industry. According to Indonesia's Center of Statistical Bureau (BPS), the number of Chinese tourists visiting Indonesia increased rapidly from 40,000 in 2002 to 470,000 in 2011. Until October this year, the number of Chinese tourists to Indonesia already surpassed 600,000. The Wonderful Indonesia campaign held in China is believed to have played a significant role in gaining this growing market.
Today, the Wonderful Indonesia campaign provides a special Mandarin version website, at cn.indonesia.travel . The website is designed to cater to the needs for information of Chinese tourists who wish to travel to and holiday in Indonesia, both as individuals or in groups. Aside from displaying a wide range of information about Indonesia and all its destinations, the website also provides various tour packages for users to select.
Prior to the launch of the Mandarin version of the Wonderful Indonesia Website, a familiarization trip was conducted for Chinese travel writers. Among destinations visited were the Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple, The Gilis of Lombok (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air), Flores and Komodo Island, and Bali.
To further facilitate travel of Chinese tourists to Indonesia, since 2000, visa application procedures for the People's Republic of China to Indonesia were reduced from 14 days to only 1 or 2 days. While Indonesia's National Airline,Garuda Indonesia offers Visa On Board services which cuts out the long lines at visa airport Immigration clearance. Chen Yunhao, one of the online quiz winners from Guangzhou was pleased with the visa on board service , commenting that "If I had not been helped by the two friendly officers, I would not have had a clue what I would be facing once we landed".
Currently the cost for visa from China to Indonesia is US$ 25.00 per person.
