The Color Run 5K Jakarta: The Happiest 5K on the Planet

Returning for its 3rd edition, the world’s popular fun packed colorful running event, The Color Run will again spread its various sparkling colors as well as fun and happiness to the capital city of Jakarta on 7th August 2016 at the East Parking Area (Parkir Timur) of the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex.

Promoting health and happiness by bringing the community together to participate in what is dubbed as the “Happiest 5k on the Planet”, the Color Run is the original paint race which has created a completely new genre of COLOR DASH running events that continue to grow exponentially.

Less about your 10-minute-mile and more about having the time of your life, The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed event in which thousands of participants, or “Color Runners” are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. Having only two rules, the idea is easy to follow:

  1. Wear white at the starting line

  2. Finish plastered in color!

The fun continues after Color Runners complete the race with an unforgettable Finish Festival. This larger than life party is splashed with music, dancing and massive color throws, which create millions of vivid color combinations.

As a special highlight and marking the fifth anniversary of The Color Run this year, the event will feature the Tropicolor World Tour 2016. Participants will experience an all-new Tropicolor Zone on course, where they will be bathed in a tropical array of colors and delicious island scents as they pass through the shade of palm trees, arches, and island-style music.

At the Finish Festival, Color Runners will enjoy even more fun at Rainbow Beach, an interactive island featuring music, dancing, unique photo opportunities, and massive color throws. Each Color Runner will also receive a limited-edition Tropicolor race shirt, finisher’s medal on a floral-printed ribbon, embroidered headband, and fun temporary tattoos.

The event is presented by CIMB Niaga Bank in collaboration with IMG Worldwide and MesaRace.

Registration is already open online starting from 9th May and will be closed on 18th July 2016, or until the quota is filled. This year, 32,000 “happy” runners are expected to join the one of a kind running fiesta.

The un-timed event emphasizes fun over competition. Open to first-time runners as well as families and children, each event has a designated walking lane. Runners begin dressed in clean white t-shirts, and pass through a color station once every kilometer. Each color station is associated with a different color, with volunteers blasting the runners with dyed cornstarch out of spray bottles. Runners complete the course covered in the safe and colorful powder. According to The Color Run’s 2012 figures, over 60% of participants were running a five-kilometer race for the first time, and over 70% of participants were women ages 18-40. In 2013, there were an expected one million participants altogether.

The Color Run (along with other unique racing events) is gaining wider appeal as it helps generate new interest in running, inspiring new athletes. The Color Run is among those that "represent a new theme in running: the selling of an experience beyond the accomplishment of crossing the finish line.

In Asia, Singapore was the first country to hold the Color Run in August 2013. The event managed to attract huge attention all over the country and tickets were sold out within just a few days. The two days event successfully drew over 16 thousands participants.
