Brace yourself! The one of a kind running event is coming to the capital city, Jakarta. The Color Run 5K Jakarta will paint the capital city with a rainbow of happy colors on 26th January 2014, to take place at the East Parking Area (Parkir Timur) of the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex.
Dubbed as the “Happiest 5K on the Planet”, the color run is a unique running event which is less concerned with race competition or time calculation but more with having the best fun that one can ever have. The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race where thousands of participants, or “Color Runners”, are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. Having only two rules, the idea is easy to follow:
1. Wear white at the starting line
2. Finish plastered in color!
The fun continues after Color Runners complete the race with an unforgettable Finish Festival. This larger than life party is splashed with music, dancing and massive color throws, which create millions of vivid color combinations.
The Color Run was founded by Utah native and event producer Travis Snyder, in an effort to encourage professionals and novices to run together just for the fun of it. The first Color Run took place in January 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona, USA with 6,000 participants. During the course of 2012, The Color Run held events in over 50 North American cities, with a total of more than 600,000 participants. It has therefore become the largest five-kilometers event series in the United States. In 2013, the event has more than tripled in growth hosting more than 170 events in over 30 countries.
The un-timed event emphasizes fun over competition. Open to first-time runners as well as families and children, each event has a designated walking lane. Runners begin dressed in clean white t-shirts, and pass through a color station once every kilometer. Each color station is associated with a different color, with volunteers blasting the runners with dyed cornstarch out of spray bottles. Runners complete the course covered in the safe and colorful powder. According to The Color Run’s 2012 figures, over 60% of participants were running a five-kilometer race for the first time, and over 70% of participants were women ages 18-40. In 2013, there are expected to be a million participants altogether.
The Color Run (along with other unique racing events) is gaining wider appeal as it helps generate new interest in running and inspires new athletes. The Color Run is among those that "represent a new theme in running: the selling of an experience beyond the accomplishment of crossing the finish line.
In Asia, Singapore was the first country to hold the Color Run on August 2013. The event managed to attract huge attention all over the country and tickets were sold out within just a few days. The two days event successfully drew over 16 thousands participants.
