Commemorating the 11th anniversary of Riau Archipelago, Tamadun Melayu Cultural Festival will be held at Tanjungpinang and Batam from 27th to 29th September 2013.
The event will present the wealth of Malay culture including in its art and cultural performances from a number of provinces and other participating countries, ancient Malay manuscripts and literature exhibitions, artifacts of ancient Riau Lingga Kingdom, and more. Aside from 16 provinces of Indonesia, the event will also be joined by delegates from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philipines, Cambodia, and South Africa.
The event will also saw collaboration from 10 renowned artists and cultural figures of Tanjungpinang including Teja Alhabd, Arswandi Syahri, Tarmizi Rumah Hitam, Raja Edi, and more. The secluded Anambas Islands will present the art of Gobang from Jemaja District and the Gendang percussion of Siantan District.
The three day fiesta is scheduled to be officially opened by the President of Indonesia, Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono, accompanied by the governor of Riau Archipelago M.Sani and Vice Governor Soerya Respationo, and other government officials.
The event is intended to preserve and further develop the indigenous Malay culture which is not only found in Indonesia but also in other countries. Through the event, appreciation towards indigenous Malay culture among the youth is expected to increase.
