 5017

Kelimutu Festival 2013 on Flores Highlighting the spellbinding beauty of the Three Colored Lakes of Kelimutu in Flores and all the wonders of East Nusatenggara Province, the Lake Kelimutu Festival 2013 will take place in Ende on 14th August 2013.

The festival will feature various art and cultural performances and also an exhibition and trade fair that showcases top products and services from all of the regencies in the East Nusatenggara Province. Through the festival, visitors will be presented with all the wonders of the 9 regencies of East Nusatenggara Province, namely: Lembata, East Flores, Sikka, Nagakeo, Ngada, East Manggarai, Manggarai, West Manggarai, and Ende. Presented by the office of Tourism and Creative Economy of East Nusa Tenggar Province and supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, the event is aimed to further promote various tourism and creative products of East Nusatenggara.

Mt. Kelimutu National Park is the smallest among six national parks in the stretch between Bali and the Nusatenggara islands. Its size obviously does not matter much when it offers one of the most spectacular wonders that nature has to offer. The three adjoining lakes, where each has its own distinct color, share the same name: Kelimutu. These are truly a spectacle unlikely to be found elsewhere in the world.

Located some 66 km. from the town of Ende or 83 km. from Maumere, Lake Kelimutu was discovered by a Dutch named Van Such Telen in 1915. It gained global fame since 1929, when Y. Bouman wrote in his notes about these extraordinary color-changing lakes.
