The many enchanting visages of Indonesia’s astounding culture will radiate its splendors at the Art Science Museum of Marina Bay Sands, when the The Majestic Mask: Indonesian Mask Festival gets underway from 18th to 21st October 2012 in Singapore.

This exceptional event is initiated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in collaboration with Prima Ardian Tana Foundation  and Setiadarma  House of Topeng & Wayang and is the first international art exhibition that interprets the epic love story of Panji, Sekartaji and the ferocious Kelana from the ancient Java and Balinese realms through the diversity of Indonesia’s masks collection and dramatic performances.

The Festival will also reveal the treasured myths that bear the deep philosophy which are at the root of the internationally acclaimed art performance of : Tari Topeng or The Mask Dance.

More than just an art form, the Mask Dance or Tari Topeng is essentially a sacred dance highlighted with intriguing drama and was initially performed only by the Javanese aristocrats before it became popular as a folk entertainment. Through times and across regions, this tale of romance, devotion and valor evolved into various versions. Featuring Rahayu Supanggah as music director and with the involvement of some of Indonesian art maestros such as: I Made Sidia, Sutarno Haryono, Wangi Indriya, Wasi Bantolo, this performance will surely be nothing short of spectacular.

Performed by world class dancers such as Tutut Wirastuti, Danang Pamungkas and Agus Margiyanto, The Majestic Mask is intended to feature some of the strongest versions of the Mask Dance performance from the cities that have exceptional cultural roots including Indramayu, Solo and Bali.

Ticket can be purchased at the ticket box in the Art Science Museum of Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Visitors who have purchased tickets for other exhibitions are entitled and have the privilege to enter The Majestic Mask Exhibition.
