INDONESIA FASHION WEEK 2012: towards a Unique Indonesian Fashion Identity

To be held from 23rd to 26th February 2012, at the Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta, the Indonesia Fashion Week 2012 aims to materialize the vision that Indonesia should become Asia’s Fashion Center by 2015 and one of the world’s top fashion center by 2025.
Indonesia Fashion Week 2012 is organized by the Indonesian Association of Fashion Designers and Businesses (Asosiasi Pengusaha dan Perancang Mode Indonesia/APPMI). Celebrating Indonesia’s diverse and dynamic fashion scene, the event will not only present the wealth of Indonesia’s creative fashion but will also provide an insight into the country’s fashion industry through trade shows, competitions, workshops, and seminars featuring world’s fashion icons. Beyond being an arena to showcase the latest fashion trends, the Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2012 emphasizes business to business contacts. By featuring Indonesia’s own fashion content as main highlight, It is projected that Indonesia will have its own independent trend without following other centers of fashion.
The exhibition in IFW 2012 will be wrapped in a modern atmosphere. The lineup of booths is futuristically designed, symbolic of Indonesia’s authentic and traditional fashion products that can also meet the modern taste and style and international standards. The exhibition will showcase clothing, accessories, footwear, bags, and also the textile business. As parts of the exhibition, Batik, already a worldwide acclaimed fashion from Indonesia, will be joined by other Indonesia’s authentic fashion products such as tenun - or hand woven cloths, - lurik, Jumputan, ikat, sasirangan, Kabaya Encim – or embroidered peranakan blouses, rattan cloths, and many others.
The exhibition will be divided into three zones. The Cendrawasih zone will present: Evening Wear, Cocktail dresses, Traditional and International Wedding gowns, Moslem Wear, Textile Manufacturing, and Deluxe ready to wear fashion. The Main Lobby will be the venue for Contemporary Ethnics, Fashion displays, Trend Installations, and competitions. At the Asembly Hall, visitors will find Contemporary Distros, Avant Garde wear, Accessories (Footwear, Bag, Jewellery,etc), Ready to Wear, Kid’s Wear, and Men’s Wear.
A Fashion Week is not complete without fashion shows. In IFW 2012, Fashion Shows will be held in three different areas, namely at the: Plenary Hall, the Assembly Hall, and the Main Lobby. More than 40 fashion shows will be staged during four consecutive days featuring renowned designers, independent designers, and also rookie designers. Ali Kharisma, Ardistia Dwiasri, Carmanita, Irna Mutiara, Ida Royani, Ghea Sukasah, Defrico Audy, Musa, Fery Sunarto, and Anne Avantie are some of the names decorating the list of Indonesia’s top designers at the fashion shows.
There will also be a number of seminars on small industries and fashion industries. Among these is the Seminar on Branding which will feature speakers from Norway and the Indonesian Business Association (APINDO), and the seminar on fashion trends featuring speakers from France. The event also features a competition to design ready to wear fashion with the grand prize the opportunity to compete in the Hong Kong Fashion Week.
