The thrilling “Phantom of the Opera” at Balai Kartini Jakarta

After touring the world for the last ten years and setting the world’s weekly box office record, the most famous musical in history, The Phantom of the Opera is finally set to stage its grand performance in Indonesia at the Nusa Indah Theater, Bali Kartini, Jakarta from 14 February to 3 March 2012.
This majestic and mysterious mega-musical will feature some of the best opera and theater stars from New York, America, while its legendary stage sets were designed by the late Broadway legend, James Tilton. The sets, which are known to rapidly change with the scenes, along with spine tingling special effects, have become almost as famous as the musical itself. The highly artistic taste of the show will also feature in its spectacular and colorful costumes that perfectly meet the imagination. Hundreds of costumes are intensely designed over silks and satins and decorated with thousands of beads and other accessories, giving it that legendary grandeur unique to the Phantom of the Opera.
The Phantom of the Opera itself tells the story of the uncanny composer and vocal mentor who lived in a secluded hideaway under the Paris Opera House, and came to be known as the Phantom. The character of the Phantom is mysterious, who appeared to be a hero, but on another occasion can kidnap a young singer whom he adored. He is also said to have killed a number of his enemies. Audiences will be taken to a thrilling tale, scene after scene. The power of the story, combined with great music and magnificent dance choreographies, will surely indulge every sense.
The composer: Ivan Jacobs has written a new song for PHANTOM to be debuted in Jakarta. It is called the Music of Life. The piece will be sung by Christine to her unique love, the Phantom, near the end of the musical. This soaring song is very revealing and romantic. Phantom’s last scene now contains four dramatic and romantic songs.
Marcia Madeira, the legendary award winning Broadway Lighting designer, is in charge of the musical’s illumination and special lighting effects. Award winning Costumer, Jose Rivera, is now in Hollywood, finishing the design for the Jakarta Production. Phantom’s creators are doing everything they can to make the Jakarta engagement very special.
Tickets are already sold from 24 January 2012, ranging from IDR 550,000 to IDR 1.595.000 through www.myticket.co.id or its outlets in Jakarta, Bekasi, and Surabaya. The Phantom of The Opera show’s duration is two and a half hours, and will start at 20.00 Western Indonesia Time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, while on Fridays and Saturdays there will also be an addition matinee at 14.00 Western Indonesia Time.
