To Attract Malaysian Tourists, The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Holds a Webinar to Promote Super Priority Destinations

(Jakarta, June 6th 2023)

To enhance Indonesia's tourism image on the international stage, especially in the Malaysian market, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Board of Tourism and Creative Economy through the Directorate of Regional Tourism Marketing I, Deputy of Marketing, organized a Webinar event to provide up-to-date information about Indonesia's tourism conditions to international tourism stakeholders, particularly in the Malaysian market. The webinar was themed "Indonesia Tourism Update: Exploring New Destinations of Wonder". The Malaysia Market Webinar took place on June 7, 2023, with 75 participants comprising wholesalers and Travel Agents/Tour Operators (TA/TO) from Malaysia.

The Malaysia Market Webinar is one of the promotional activities for the 5 (five) super-priority destinations, especially Labuan Bajo and Mandalika, with the ultimate goal of providing product knowledge to the participants and attracting more Malaysian tourists to Indonesia.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Board of Tourism and Creative Economy presented several speakers, namely:

  • Deputy President of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agency (MATTA), Mr. Mohd Akil Bin Mohd Yusuf,
  • Head of Commercial AirAsia Malaysia, Ms. Nur Liyana Mahizzan,
  • Head of the Tourism Office of West Nusa Tenggara Province, Mr. Jamaluddin Malay,
  • Head of the Management Agency of Labuan Bajo Flores Authority, Ms. Shana Fatina,
  • Chairman of ASTINDO (Association of Indonesian Tour and Travel Agencies), Ms. Pauline Suharno.

"Through this Malaysia webinar, we hope that major wholesalers and TA/TO (Travel Agents/Tour Operators) from Malaysia can acquire up-to-date information about the 5 super priority destinations from the expert speakers we have invited for this event," said Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy of Marketing.

Malaysia is a potential market for Indonesia and has always been one of the largest contributors of foreign tourists to Indonesia. In 2019, Malaysian tourists ranked first in terms of arrivals to Indonesia, with a total of up to 2.9 million visitors. "This year's target for international tourists coming to Indonesia is between 6 to 8.5 million people. Of course, this will be gradually increased sustainably, with a focus on quality tourism," exclaimed Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno.

This year, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will focus its promotional efforts on collaborations with stakeholders and key players in the tourism industry both domestically and internationally. This includes collaboration with Local Governments, wholesalers/travel agents/tour operators, hotels, amusement parks/attractions, and airlines, through sales missions and integrated partnerships. Apart from increasing the number of Malaysian tourists visiting Indonesia, we hope that these efforts will directly benefit the local communities in the tourism destinations and the tourism industry as a whole in Indonesia, stated Wisnu Sindhutrisno, Director of Regional Tourism Marketing I (Asia Pacific).
